History Minimize

The roots of the Football and Cheerleading Club of Johnson County began around 1975 as the YMCA Youth Football and Cheerleading program.  In 1981, the YMCA discontinued the program, leaving a void in Johnson County for organized youth football and cheerleading programs.  At that time, several parents worked to continue the program through Johnson County Parks and Recreation District (JCPRD), and "The Football and Cheerleading Club of Johnson County" was created.

At the beginning, football teams were formed by junior high areas.  With the establishment of middle schools in the Shawnee Mission School District, FCCJC began to form teams by high school areas in 1993.  At the same time, FCCJC established the light and heavy concept, which grouped participants of comparable weight and size within a competitive league.  That procedure was modified to light and open divisions, which allowed players under the split weight to choose which division to play.  In 2008, only the open division will be offered but options for light players who want to play against other light players will be considered.  The Club has grown from 44 football teams to over 150 teams in the 2010 Fall Flag and Tackle Program as well as over 900 cheerleaders in Kindergarten through 8th grades.

Since its inception, the Football and Cheerleading Club of Johnson County has been governed by a Board of Directors.  This group is responsible for all decisions concerning the Club.  The Board positions are elected from the general membership and are voluntary.  These men and women donate a large amount of their time to help make the Football and Cheerleading Club of Johnson County so successful.  In June 2005, Sports Management Associates LC was hired to manage the club office, oversee administrative and finance functions, marketing and officials scheduling.
